WayAway Review: How to Save Money with Cashback on Flights and More!
Hurray transparency! This post contains affiliate links. For more information see our disclosure.
If you’ve landed on our blog, you’ll know that we love nothing more than being on the road.
We quit our jobs because we wanted to have more time to travel: we find exploring unusual places exhilarating; love the sounds of different languages or seeing sights that stun us into silence; savouring the spices and flavours of a new cuisine and meeting people from all over the world.
But we’re not going to lie - travelling costs money. It doesn’t matter whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or intending to hit the road for the few next years: you’ll need some ca$h monies either way.
Neither of us is dripping in them dollar dollar bills so unless we a) win the lottery b) start raking in 6 figures from this small blog (hear me oh Google Gods) or c) Vincent finds a Sugar Daddy, we’re always on the lookout for ways to save money on our next adventure.
And that’s where WayAway comes in. Designed by travellers for travellers, this service takes all the stress out of travel planning: from giving you unique local recommendations about different destinations to enable you to make the most out of your trip to offering the best flight and hotel deals so that you can travel without worrying about your bank balance.
But that’s not all. WayAway’s membership programme WayAway Plus offers travellers something that no other sites do: cashback on flights, tours and hotel bookings. We’ve been using WayAway Plus for over a year now and getting money back for going on holiday is basically a feeling that NEVER gets old.

What is WayAway?
WayAway is basically a travel aggregator (like Skyscanner) that gives travellers the best prices on airline tickets and other travel deals.
Their clever and user-friendly platform quickly compares flight prices offered by all global airlines and travel agencies and gives a wide range of options that suit any traveller's budget.
How Does WayAway Work?
Once you have entered the destination you want to fly to, your departure city and number of passengers, WayAway will show you your flight options, beginning with the cheapest and fastest flights (and if applicable, the most direct flights) followed by the more expensive options. You’ll also see the journey time and any layover airports for your flight.
If you know exactly when you want to fly, WayAway will show you the cheapest flights available on that day and you can also easily see the flight prices for the same destination a few days either side of the date you want to travel. This means it’s really easy to search for more affordable tickets on different dates as well.
Alternatively, If you aren’t sure of your exact travel dates, WayAway has a useful price chart that gives you a monthly snapshot of the cheapest days to fly to your chosen destination.
One of our favourite things about WayAway is the menu on the left-hand side of the screen that allows you to toggle between lots of different options.
You can choose whether you want baggage included in your ticket, between direct or indirect flights, if you want to fly with a particular airline, your journey duration, if you are a member of any airline alliances (e.g. One World or Star Alliance), the airport you want to depart from/arrive into and much more!
This means that you have the ultimate flexibility when booking your flight and can really keep the costs down depending on what you choose.
If you like to plan your travel way in advance (something we recommend especially if you want to keep your travel costs low), WayAway also gives you the option of setting price alerts, so you receive an email when airfares drop.
Again, there is plenty of flexibility on how you do this: you can either set a price alert for a particular month (or multiple months) or for the specific date you want to travel.
If you are planning a trip to more than one country or to multiple cities in the same country then WayAway can help you out there too.
You just need to click ‘Create multi-city route’ under the departure city box and you can add in other destinations/cities and dates. You can actually add in up to 6 different flights in this section!
When you’ve decided which flights you want to book, WayAway will show you all your flight details. Here you have the option of adding luggage to your flight (if you haven’t already) and you can see the different agencies through which you can make your final booking.
The ‘details’ button next to your flight information gives you additional information including the seat map for your flight, seat pitch (basically how much room you can expect to have - very important for our tall readers!), the width of your seat and your carry-on and checked baggage allowance.
You can also see whether food and refreshments are included in your flight or offered at an additional cost and even flight statistics like the likelihood of your flight being on time, delayed or cancelled.
Like Skyscanner, WayAway also has an option for travellers who know they want to go somewhere but don’t know exactly where.
If you choose ‘anywhere’ in the destination box on WayAway, you’ll see a map showing cheap flights from your departure city to…well, pretty much every single country in the world!
If you zoom into a particular region, more flight options will pop up. There’s also a ‘Direct’ button on the map that you can select if you only want to see direct flights.
We really like this map because if you are travelling on a budget it can give you a good idea of where you can afford to travel to and how far your money might stretch. It’s also great for travel inspiration!
If you have a specific date in mind you can still use this feature as it will show you flight prices to different countries based on your dates and you can then select where you want to travel to according to your budget.
Once you’ve chosen your destination, the map will also show you the cities you can fly to from cheapest to most expensive.
What is WayAway Plus? And What’s All This About Cashback on Flights and Other Stuff?
WayAway’s membership programme aka WayAway Plus is where you can make the biggest savings by getting cashback on flights and many other bookings you make through WayAway.
Importantly, this doesn’t just apply to airline tickets - you can get cashback on tours, car rentals, airport transfers, hotels and more!
Tell me about the ca$h monies!
WayAway Plus is what makes WayAway stand head and shoulders above all the other travel aggregators - noone else offers travellers cashback on flights, tours or hotel bookings.
Now to be clear, we aren’t talking about points, or miles or vouchers that you collect and never end up spending (because let’s be honest, how many of us have airmiles that don’t even equate to half a flight?!). We are talking cold, hard, actual cash that you can withdraw into your PayPal account.
For example, as WayAway Plus members, we booked a hotel in Ayvalık in Turkey through Booking.com. After our trip was over, we received $10 cashback that we then added to our PayPal account. All very straightforward and we ended up with some extra spending money!
WayAway Plus’ annual membership plan is currently available at an early bird price of $49.99 (it’s usually $99.99).
🔥 Use this link to get 10% off your membership. This includes a 7-day free trial where you can check out all the features of the membership plan.
And honestly, if you book your flights, hotel and tours through WayAway, you’ll soon find that you’ve already made your membership fee back in cashback rewards!
As a WayAway Plus member, your account will be credited with cashback on flights, hotel stays, completed tours or any other services you have purchased and taken through WayAway within 90 days (in our experience it’s much faster than this, usually within a few days).
To find your cashback, you just need to go to the WayAway Plus page and look under ‘My Cashback’. Initially, the cashback status will be ‘Pending’ - this just means the process is underway. When the status changes to ‘Completed’ you can withdraw the money to your PayPal account.
You won’t be able to withdraw less than $10 worth of cashback to your PayPal account but with so many tours, flights and accommodation bookings that you can claim cashback on, you don’t really have to worry about this.
The best thing about WayAway Plus’ cashback scheme is that unlike airmiles or points, the money you receive doesn’t expire. You can save your cashback on flights and other actvities in your WayAway Plus account until you are ready to withdraw it to your PayPal. And then you can spend it on whatever you want!
As well as getting up to 5% cashback on flights, there are a ton of other services where you can receive cashback using WayAway Plus:
As you can see it includes rental cars, museum tickets, airport transfers, hostel bookings and more!
You’re Never Alone: WayAway’s 24/7 Customer Support
The other thing we love about WayAway Plus is that you have access to 24/7 customer service support.
So whether it’s a question about a flight booking, directions for getting to your hotel from the airport, or where to find the best kebab in the early hours of the morning, the WayAway travel experts are available around the clock to help you. Just drop them a message and they will be ready to assist!
Do Your Bit for the Planet with WayAway Plus
Finally, if you are a frequent traveller who still wants to do your bit to protect the environment, WayAway Plus offers you an opportunity to offset your carbon footprint.
You can choose to donate the cashback you receive to Sustainable Travel International, an organisation that has been helping to offset carbon footprints from travel for over 15 years. Your cashback will go towards the Envira Amazonia Project, which works to preserve the Amazon Rainforest.
Before you donate, WayAway will show you how many tons of CO2 your contribution will help to compensate for and they’ll also double your donation!
You can learn more about WayAway’s carbon offset scheme here.
What Else Can You Use WayAway For?
Another feature of WayAway that sets it apart from other travel aggregators is its useful city and neighbourhood guides.
The WayAway platform has fantastic guides for a variety of destinations that have been created by locals or expert travellers and include hidden gems, off-beat travel recommendations, the best photography spots and unique insider tips.
Not only does this make planning your next trip super easy, but the amazingly curated content from local experts means that you’re also likely to discover places that most regular tourists miss. It’s basically like having a really cool friend in every city!
WayAway’s eyecatching and colour-coded neighbourhood guides complete with hilarious and funky names immediately give you a great initial idea of what to expect from a city.
The maps summarise the classic sights, unique markets, local favourites and the best areas to get snap happy with your camera. When you click on an attraction on the map you can find out more about it, including directions and images on Instagram.
Many of these special tips are only available on WayAway Plus, another reason why joining WayAway’s membership programme is so worthwhile!
Hungry? You can also use the map to find the best restaurants, cafes and bars in a city. Since all of these recommendations have been put together by locals you’re sure to have a culinary experience that is well off the tourist trail.
